As Blood Runs Black is an American deathcore band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2003.


History

The band was formed in 2003 in Los Angeles by Bijon Roybal, Richard Reyes, Louie Ruvalcaba, Kyle Hasenstaab, and Hector "Leche" de Santiago . They are currently signed to Mediaskare Records and their debut album, Allegiance, achieved considerable success[1], making the band a well-known Deathcore act. They are currently at work on a second album currently named Descent Into Hysteria.

In 2007 and 2008, they toured extensively in the United States, on The Summer Slaughter Tour 2007, BrutaliTour 2007, and the Metal for the Masses 2008 Tour; and in the United Kingdom, on The Summer Slaughter Tour. During 2007's The Summer Slaughter Tour, drummer Hector de Santiago was kicked out of the band, and replaced by Ryan Thomas, formerly of the band The Serpent Son, but after he left Scott Walker filled on. Currently, they have just updated their MySpace page with a video, confirming that Chris and Sal have left the band, they are still going to continue to work on the new album and also keep touring. Despite having fill-in members for Chris and Sal as of now, ABRB are not sure yet whether they are permanent or not. Leche was also in this video with Ernie, as they informed us that he was back in the band, and would be playing and writing on the new album.

The band performed a new song on the Bleeding Through Tour, entitled Airforce One. Recently the band released the instrumental track of it onto their MySpace page as a vocal audition in search of a new vocalist and frontman. On their 2009 "Never Say Die Tour", As Blood Runs Black introduced their new vocalist, Jonny McBee, and also performed a new song called "Stand Your Ground". The band has stated in a blog that they will be going into the studio after the holidays to record the record, and that it should be released mid 2010. As Blood Runs Black went into the studio and recorded vocals for Airforce One and the track was released on December 24th. Just a few days after releasing their demo vocal recording of Air Force One, newfound vocalist Jonny McBee left the band due to conflicting personality issues.

The band entered the studio on January 4th to record drums for the new album. On January 12th, the band entered the studio to record guitars. It was also posted on their Twitter page that they would be putting up a new vocal demo soon. Recently the band has been broadcasting live on uStream.

Biography :

As I Lay Dying is an American metalcore band from San Diego, California, formed in 2000. Their band name derives from the novel by William Faulkner with the same title.[2] Founded in 2000 by Tim Lambesis and having completed their first Line-up in 2001, the band's line-up consists of vocalist Tim Lambesis, drummer Jordan Mancino, lead guitarist Nick Hipa, rhythm guitarist Phil Sgrosso, and bassist Josh Gilbert, all of whom are Christians.[3][4][5] Signed to Metal Blade Records, As I Lay Dying has released four studio albums, one split album, and one compilation album.

As I Lay Dying's 2007 release An Ocean Between Us peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200, and number 1 on the Top Rock chart. The band has performed at Wacken Open Air, With Full Force, Soundwave Festival, Sounds of the Underground, Warped Tour, and Taste of Chaos. In 2007, As I Lay Dying won the "Ultimate Metal God" award from MTV2 at the first annual "All That Rocks" special, was named "Artist of the Year" at the San Diego Music Awards in 2008 [6] and was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award for the song "Nothing Left".


History

Beneath the Encasing of Ashes and split album (2001–2003)

After leaving the band Society's Finest where he played guitar, vocalist Tim Lambesis formed As I Lay Dying in 2000.[8] Starting out as a duet with drummer Jordan Mancino after they first met as a band in February 2001, the title of the band was taken by the novel of the same name by William Faulkner although there is no correlation between the band's musical theme to the book's theme. Tim Lambesis stated in an interview on metalunderground that, "We got the idea from the name. I wouldn’t say that there is a correlation in the meaning of the book and the meaning of the band. We stole the name from there".[5][9]

Record label Pluto Records took interest and offered AILD a recording contract. After accepting the offer, one month later the band entered the recording studio to record its first album Beneath the Encasing of Ashes, which was released in June 2001. In 2002, the band recorded five songs for a split album on Pluto Records, with San Diego heavy metal band American Tragedy. The band realized it needed to expand to a five-piece to include another guitarist and a bassist. Mancino commented "we started going on tour and we needed obviously more people than that."[10] Since they had no "solid" members besides Tim Lambesis and Jordan Mancino, the band recruited friends to play with them, so the band experienced several line-up changes; Bassist Noah Chase left the band in 2001,Brandon Hayes and his subsequent replacement Aaron Kennedy departed in 2003; soon after forming the band The Tokyo Smash in Tulsa, Oklahoma.[10]

Frail Words Collapse (2003–2004)

As I Lay Dying's contract with Pluto Records had expired and the band was free to pursue other record labels. After extensive touring and an increase in popularity, As I Lay Dying was offered a record deal with Metal Blade Records in March 2003.[11] The band accepted the offer and Pluto Records owner Brian Cobbel was supportive of the band moving to Metal Blade. Lambesis commented "since we've been on the label, they've really gone out of their way to market us differently than they've marketed other bands in the past and have really pushed us as a newer sound for the label."[12]

In July 2003, the band's second studio album, Frail Words Collapse was released. Produced by Lambesis, the album peaked at number 30 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart, and number 41 on the Top Heatseekers chart.[13] William York of Allmusic thought the band "doesn't really add anything new to the mix from a musical standpoint" with the release, although praised it for being "solid enough and well executed, and the production is adequate."[14] Sherwin Frias of Jesus Freak Hideout had similar sentiments and commented "As I Lay Dying didn't exactly break many boundaries in making this record", but praised that each song is "executed so well (and with such precision) that nary a song misses its target."[15] Touring followed to promote the album with the bands Himsa, Shadows Fall, The Black Dahlia Murder, Killswitch Engage, In Flames, Sworn Enemy, and Hatebreed. Music videos for the songs "94 Hours" and "Forever" received rotation on the networks of FUSE and MTV2's Headbanger's Ball.

Shadows Are Security (2005–2006)

As I Lay Dying entered Big Fish recording studio in Encinitas, California in January 2005 to record its third studio album. Shadows Are Security was released in June, and debuted at number 1 on the Independent Albums. It was the band's first release to enter the Billboard 200 at number 35.[13] and sold about 275 000 copies. Wade Kergan of Allmusic called it "one of the strongest releases of 2005," and commented that new guitarists Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa, make the band "stronger."[16] Rod Smith of Decibel Magazine commented "Tim Lambesis’ finely honed roar in bittersweet instrumental matrices augmented by occasional clean vocals by bassist Clint Norris . Guitarists Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa whip up a melodic cyclone on 'The Darkest Nights'."[17] Guitarist Evan White had quit the band due to personal reasons after his mother had died. All the clean vocals where sung by Dave Arthur of Kings To You, because they sounded in the studio more powerful than Clint Norris'. Guitarist Phil Sgrosso recorded bass on the album, to get the recording finished in the given time.

As I Lay Dying began touring to promote the new record by making appearances at Hell on Earth, Winter Headline Tour, Ozzfest, and a tour with Slipknot and Unearth. The band was on the second stage alongside Rob Zombie, Killswitch Engage, Mastodon, The Haunted, and It Dies Today. At the fee of $75,000 the band could have chosen to perform on the headliners stage but refused the offer as they thought it was not worth the money.[18] The band raised its profile in 2006 through its support slot on the Taste of Chaos tour in the US alongside bands such as Deftones, Thrice, Dredg, Funeral for a Friend and Story of the Year.[19] In the summer of 2006 As I Lay Dying closed the Sounds of the Underground Festival.[20]

In May 2006, Beneath the Encasing of Ashes and the songs from the split album were re-released as A Long March: The First Recordings through Metal Blade Records. The album contained the original and re-recordings of the songs from the split album, and was released as the band preferred to re-release the material rather than have fans pay large sums of money to listen to early releases. The re-release peaked at number 3 on Independent Albums, and 129 on the Billboard 200.[13] Bassist Clint Norris left the band on good terms in November 2006 with the desire to focus on his marriage. The band auditioned ten bassists, although none proved successful. Lambesis received demo tapes from a band called This Endearing, featuring bassist Josh Gilbert. Lambesis wanted to "sit on it" and wait for the band to record more material. However, This Endearing disbanded and Gilbert flew in and was recruited as the new bassist.

An Ocean Between Us (2007-2009)

In 2007, As I Lay Dying started recording a new album titled An Ocean Between Us, which was released on August 21, 2007. Debuting at number 8 on the Billboard 200, and number 1 on the Top Rock chart with first-week sales of 39,000, the album was the highest charting release for the band.[21] Co-produced by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz and As I Lay Dying, and mixed by Colin Richardson, the album received generally positive reviews.[citation needed] Christa L. Titus of Billboard commented "Whatever the differences between As I Lay Dying's personal desires and what its fans demand, this album surely acts as a bridge," praising the song "Comfort Betrays" for its guitar solo.[22] Scott Alisoglu of Blabbermouth.net described the album as "a well-rounded and often thrashy metalcore album, as the band has struck an effective balance between aggression and accessible melodies."[23] Thom Jurek of Allmusic praised the band for expanding its musical range by including melodic choruses and clean vocals such as they had previously done on Confined from Shadows Are Security.[24] This album is argued by some to be more of a thrash and heavy metal album, and less of a metalcore album than Frail Words Collapse and Shadows are Security, although some elements of metalcore still shine through. It was the first time for a Bassist (Josh Gilbert), to record on an As I Lay Dying record, since Evan White and Phil Sgrosso tracked Bass on the previous recordings.

To promote the album, As I Lay Dying performed at the Warped Tour 2007 in August,[25] and toured through Europe in September with Darkest Hour, Himsa, and Maroon.[8] The band was awarded "Ultimate Metal God" by MTV2's "All That Rocks",[26] and was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of "Best Metal Performance" for the song "Nothing Left". Other nominees included Slayer (who won the award), King Diamond, Machine Head, and Shadows Fall. They played some of the 2008 Warped Tour, as well as the Taste of Chaos UK 2008 Tour with headliners Atreyu.[27]

On April 9, 2009, their DVD This Is Who We Are was released in the Europe. On April 14, 2009, the DVD was released in United States. Almost a month after its release, This Is Who We Are (DVD) was certified Gold in the US.

The Powerless Rise (2009—present)

As I Lay Dying have written 6-7 songs as of September 28, 2009 for their new album, set for an early 2010 release, and have entered the studio to begin to record in mid October. On November 23, 2009, Josh Gilbert announced through Twitter that half of the record is recorded. As I Lay Dying announced the title of their new album "The Powerless Rise".


Christian faith

When asked if they're a Christian band or Christians in a band, Tim Lambesis stated on the band's FAQ, "I'm not sure what the difference is between five Christians playing in a band and a Christian band.[3] If you truly believe something, then it should affect every area of your life. All five of us are Christians. I believe that change should start with me first, and as a result, our lyrics do not come across very "preachy." Many of our songs are about life, struggles, mistakes, relationships and other issues that don't fit entirely in the spiritual category. However, all of these topics are written about through my perspective as a Christian."

In summer 2005, As I Lay Dying played on the Ozzfest Tour's second-stage with the likes of The Black Dahlia Murder, Rob Zombie, It Dies Today, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Bury Your Dead, Arch Enemy, and others.

2006

In summer 2006, As I Lay Dying headlined the Sounds of the Underground Tour, they played with In Flames, Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Shadows Fall, It Dies Today, Gwar, Trivium, Evergreen Terrace, The Chariot, Terror, Behemoth, Job for a Cowboy, and Through the Eyes of the Dead.

2007

In summer of 2007, As I Lay Dying performed at the 2007 Warped Tour. In the fall of 2007, they headlined the An Ocean Between Us Tour with support from All That Remains, Haste the Day, and Through the Eyes of the Dead.

2008

In spring of 2008, As I Lay Dying joined the lineup of Soundwave during February and March 2008 in Australia alongside bands Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Bleeding Through, Haste the Day, and Carpathian.

In summer of 2008 the band made a one-month appearance again on the 2008 Warped Tour from its June 20 to July 18 dates. In addition, As I Lay Dying headlined Cornerstone, Sonshine, and Revelation Generation Festival. They also played at Lifelight, Wacken Open Air, and Bloodsock Open Air, and Dubai Desert Rock Festivals.

In addition to that As I Lay Dying toured with acts such as Evergreen Terrace, August Burns Red and Misery signals in late spring of 08.

In fall of 2008, beginning 8 November 2008, As I Lay Dying headlined the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour in Singapore, with Story of the Year, and A Vacant Affair as their supporting act. As I Lay Dying also headlined a show in Anaheim, California on November 21 with Bring Me The Horizon, Terror, and Born of Osiris. The Show was filmed for a first ever As I Lay Dying DVD. The band closed their 2008 tour with a performance in Jakarta, Indonesia on November, 30th.

2009

The band toured the US with Protest the Hero, The Human Abstract, and MyChildren MyBride.

As I Lay Dying took part on the No Fear Energy Tour headlined by Lamb of God with main support from themselves and Children of Bodom, and rotating opening slots with God Forbid and Municipal Waste.[30] On July 31 the band appeared on the Inside Out stage at Soulfest, a Christian music festival held in the Gunstock Mountain Resort in New Hampshire.

As I Lay Dying appeared for the first time at Alive Music Festival in Canal Fulton, Ohio. They shared the stage with The Devil Wears Prada, Haste the Day, and Norma Jean. This was the first time that Alive Music Festival had ever featured metal bands.

They toured in October with Senses Fail, Closure and Fact in Moscow. Also in October, the band took a break from the studio to make an appearance at Self Destruct in the Ozarks which was held in Jacket, Missouri.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is an American alternative rock band that formed in 2004 in Middleburg, Florida.


History

Early years (2001-2004)

The band was started by childhood friends Ronnie Winter and Duke Kitchens in AP music theory class which they shared in 01. They were both in other bands and mainly goofed around covering songs from bands like Blink 182 and MxPx. They later joined members from Duke and Ronnie's other bands(Dishonest and The Recovery) together to officially form the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus in 2003. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus released an untitled demo with three songs in mid 2004, they added 9 more songs a few months later and released the self titled 12 song LP that same year.

Although the local reaction was undeniable, the industry wheels didn’t start turning right away. The band showcased for several labels to no avail, leading to discouragement between members, some of which left or were removed from the band. Their fan base continued to build to an almost unheard-of level for a local band, in-turn attracting New York-based A&R/Management executive Steve Tramposch. Just a few months later, following a flurry of industry attention, the band signed with Virgin Records after Tramposch accepted a Senior A&R title there.

Don't You Fake It (2005-2007)

In 2006, they released their first LP, Don't You Fake It with the singles "Face Down", "False Pretense", "Your Guardian Angel", and "Damn Regret".

“Face Down” blends propulsive, chugging guitars, a steady beat and yearning pop vocals and climaxes in a detonation of dissonance and a volley of screams. “In Fate’s Hands” starts with plangent acoustic strumming then abruptly shifts into overdrive with start-stop guitars, tumbling drums and a chorus as angry as it is infectious. And “Cat and Mouse” is a melancholy ballad anchored by a repeating delicate piano line that surfaced as if by magic.

“We were at a showcase for a record label, and we were pretty sure we weren’t ready, so everyone was on edge,” recalls Winter. “So, to calm his nerves, Duke sat down with his guitar and just started playing. I walked up to him and said, “’Dude what is that?’ And he said, ‘I just came up with it.’ So I said, ‘Keep playing it. Don’t stop.’ And I made him play for two hours straight while we wrote the entire song all the way through.’”

The cantankerous “Seventeen Ain’t So Sweet” addresses a female friend who has an amazing voice but has been unable to make a dent in the music industry because she doesn’t look like a plastic pop idol, and the reflective, flowing “Your Guardian Angel” shows Winters letting down his guard and trying to express what it really feels like to be in love. But it’s “Face Down,” a scathing indictment of domestic abuse, which hit hardest.


The album was certified gold on November 27, 2006 by the RIAA for sales shipments exceeding 500,000 copies.[1] In February 2007, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus headlined the US Take Action Tour organized for the prevention of youth suicide, along with bands such as My Chemical Romance and Rise Against.[2] Their song "In Fate's Hands" is featured in the video game Madden NFL 07, their song "Face Down" is featured in the video games Saints Row 2 and MX vs. ATV: Untamed, and their song "False Pretense" is featured in the movie Never Back Down (2008)

From 2006-2008 the band did several headliner and supporting shows with bands like Madina Lake, The Audition, Saosin, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Taking Back Sunday, Lorene Drive, The Used, Monty Are I, Amber Pacific, Boys Like Girls, Halifax, Emery, A Static Lullaby, and So They Say.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Don't You Fake It Deluxe Edition (CD/DVD) was released on February 23, 2007. The CD features the album and two exclusive songs, an acoustic version of "Face Down" and a never released out of Australia bonus track "Disconnected".

On May 3, 2007, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus performed on Fort Rucker, Alabama to help benefit the rebuilding of Enterprise High School after it was destroyed by a tornado on March 1, 2007.

Also, in May 2007, the band's single, "Face Down", was featured in the movie Georgia Rule.

In a 2007 interview with the Florida Entertainment Scene, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus teamed up with Virgin Records to raise funds for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. They also headlined the Take Action! Tour which sponsors awareness against teen suicide and against animal cruelty.

"In Fate's Hands" was used in Madden NFL 07 as well as the 2007 EVER OSL Starleague (Ongamenet). Additional songs used during that OSL season were "Waiting" and "Atrophy".

Lonely Road (2008-present)

In June 2007, according to Billboard.com, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus began to work on their second album, Lonely Road, that had "a tentative release date being summer 2008."[3] The band was then pulled out of their confirmed appearances at the Australian Soundwave festival tour 2008, after their label president promised to pay money that was owed and have the band in the studio, but instead didn't pull through.[citation needed]

In April 2008, the band began an acoustic tour on the east coast in various locations with the group Amaru, who is from the same home town. Ronnie said that the tour felt like they were "Getting back where we all started."

After pulling out of the 2008 Soundwave festival, the band took part in the line-up for 2009.

On September 30, 2008, the band announced in a MySpace blog that on October 3, they would be premiering a demo version of a song from the upcoming album. The song was to be available a day earlier for members of the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus "Alliance" fan group. However, the studio of the song "Pen and Paper" was released to members of the "Alliance" fan group on October 9, and was released on the band's MySpace the following day. Another song, "You Better Pray," the first single off of "Lonely Road", was premiered worldwide on PlanetRadio1073.com[1] for free listening beginning on October 21 and began streaming the next day on the band's MySpace page.

Their second studio album, titled Lonely Road,[4] was released on February 3, debuting in the fourteenth spot in The Billboard 200, and was produced by Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Daughtry, Less Than Jake, Hoobastank, P.O.D., All-American Rejects, Seether).

Beginning in October 2008, Matt Carter had replaced the former guitar player , Carter was seen working as a tech for the band in the winter and spring of 2008. He had previously jammed with the band before, but decided to pursue something else. Matt was asked to take his spot and has agreed to play with The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. In an interview with a Jacksonville newspaper, Ronnie was asked whether or not Matt was officially in the band, to which he responded, "I don't know. I guess he's in the band. We're taking it slow."[5] Matt has had very little time to learn all of their songs before heading out on tour with them.

In support of this album the band has done many tours in the Winter of 08/09 and the Spring of 2009 with bands such as Shinedown, Framing Hanley, Tickle Me Pink, and more.

On March 20, 2009, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus released an EP titled Shock Session, featuring acoustic versions of "Pen & Paper", "You Better Pray", and "Face Down".

At the end of May 2009, they announced along with Hollywood Undead, Mest, and The Sleeping that they would be doing a summer tour for the months of June and July, playing mostly club and small venue shows. They will be rejoining Monty Are I for an August 2009 tour throughout Canada and California. On January 29, 2010, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus announced via their Twitter page that they will have a new EP out in May.[6]
